25 February - March 4

Introducing our hummingbird neighbors:

We've been watching these two and their busy mama-hummer since we arrived in Quepos 6 weeks ago. They only hatched a few short weeks ago, and just two days ago the babies finally took flight and are now off to make new homes in the surrounding jungle. We haven't seen them since - the kids had grown quite attached to them, so we're missing them a bit. When they first hatched out of the eggs they were featherless and were about the size of Brice's thumb. They since grew to fill up their next and were about a 1/2 size hummingbird when they flew away the other day.

Beyond that the week so far has been a quiet one for me as I've been down with a stomach bug and fever for several days (on the mends now). We've got some lovely new neighbors in from Monterey (CA) with two kids Benjamin who is 4 and Mela who is 10. Benjamin is constantly cruising down to see if Tate wants to play "monsters". I don't think I've ever seen Benjamin without his swim goggles on.
